    Bellevue Syrene 1820
Piazza della Vittoria, 5, Sorrento, Italia

This five-star hotel has been a favourite since it opened in 1820, and it's easy to see why. The villa sits on a cliff overlooking the seafront and the Gulf of Naples, in one of Sorrento's most privileged locations. Its history dates back to ancient times, as it stands on the foundations of a Roman villa where the Emperor Augustus retreated for political reasons. It was the Counts Mastrobuono who began construction of the current building in 1750 as their summer residence, and just a hundred years later it was a welcoming hotel in a haven of peace and natural wonder.
Even today, the Bellevue Syrene exudes a 19th-century elegance, only slightly toned down by recent renovations. Although some of the furnishings and decor have been modernised, the overall feel is as aristocratic as it was in the past. A slightly more contemporary colour palette and some modern art have given the hotel a bit of a makeover, but without detracting from its character. The rooms overlooking the courtyard are luxurious and welcoming, but once you arrive in Sorrento it is worth having a sea view, complete with a balcony overlooking the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius. In addition to the fifty rooms and suites, the Bellevue Syrene is full of lounges, lounges and terraces and boasts a series of dining options: outdoors in the summer, behind the windows in the winter, but always with the extraordinary view of the gulf. .

Sorrento

Cosa fare a Sorrento

  • Valley of the Mills

A hidden gem in Sorrento, this valley was formed around 35,000 years ago due to a volcanic eruption and subsequent erosion. The valley gets its name from an old mill that was used until the early 1900s to grind grain. There was also a sawmill and a public washhouse. When Piazza Tasso was built in 1866, it isolated the valley from the sea, increasing humidity levels and allowing lush vegetation to grow. Today, the overgrown ruins give the valley a mysterious and almost eerie charm
